# Holder Rewards

One switch sends a coin's creator fees to its holders, paid out pro rata in regular epochs.

**Pay your creator fees to your holders.** A creator can give up their fee stream and route it to a **rewards vault**. The vault pays the coin's holders in proportion to what they hold.

## How it works

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Fees fill the pot

Every trade on the coin, on the curve or in the pool, pays its creator share into the coin's rewards vault instead of to the creator. That's the creator's **0.7% share** of the trading fee **plus any creator tax**. See the table below.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### An epoch opens at a random moment

Once fees have built up, a new **epoch** opens at a **random moment**. It takes a snapshot of every holder's balance at a specific block and allocates the pot across them, pro rata.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Claims open after 1 hour

Each epoch opens for claims **1 hour** after it's created. The coin's page shows your share under **YOUR SHARE**, with a countdown until it's **OPEN TO CLAIM**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Claim within 90 days

Press **CLAIM** on the coin's page. Each epoch stays claimable for **90 days**. Anything left unclaimed after that rolls over into future epochs, so it goes back into the pot for holders rather than being lost.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What goes to holders

Holder rewards redirect the coin's whole creator fee stream, not just the extra tax.

| Part of each trade | Without holder rewards | With holder rewards |
| ---------------------------------- | ---------------------- | ------------------- |
| Platform's 0.3% of the trading fee | Platform               | Platform            |
| Creator's 0.7% of the trading fee  | Creator                | **Holders**         |
| Creator tax (0–10%, if set)        | Creator                | **Holders**         |

So a coin with a 2% creator tax and holder rewards on pays its holders **2.7%** of every trade. A coin with no creator tax pays them **0.7%**.

## Why random timing?

If everyone knew exactly when the next snapshot would land, players could buy just before it and sell just after it to grab rewards they didn't hold for. A random snapshot time rewards the people who actually hold.

## What you get paid in

Rewards are paid in the coin's **raise asset**, so ETH for an ETH coin, USDG for a USDG coin, and so on. Where some fees arrived in the coin itself, an epoch can also include a portion of the coin.

## Who's counted

Rewards go to **holders**. Addresses that aren't real holders are excluded, so they don't dilute everyone else. That includes the coin's curve, its Uniswap pool and protocol contracts.

## Turning it on

The creator chooses holder rewards when launching (the **HOLDER REWARDS** box on the Insert Coin screen), or the fee recipient turns it on later from the coin's page with **ENABLE HOLDER REWARDS**. It takes two confirmations:

1. **Create the vault.** A rewards vault is deployed for the coin.
2. **Route the fees.** The fee recipient points the coin's fee stream at the vault.

When both are done, the coin shows **HOLDER REWARDS ON**.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**This can't be undone.** Once the vault is the fee recipient, it stays the fee recipient forever. Only the current recipient could move the stream, and the vault never will. No wallet can ever take it back.
{% endhint %}

## Under the hood

* Each coin gets its own rewards vault, created by the rewards factory.
* A **publisher** service takes the snapshot and computes each holder's share off-chain, then posts a single **Merkle root** for the epoch on-chain.
* Every claim is checked against that root, so the vault only pays out amounts that match the published snapshot.
* If the publisher is briefly offline, your share still exists. The proofs show up again when it's back.

See [Fees, Claims & Rewards](/degen-games-docs/developers/fees-claims-rewards.md) for the contract calls.

{% hint style="info" %}
Holder rewards depend on trading volume. No volume means no fees, and no fees means no rewards. They aren't a yield or a return on your investment.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://degen-games-2.gitbook.io/degen-games-docs/how-the-game-works/holder-rewards.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
